Summer Field Trips

This summer we hosted 5 field trips for our enrichment club students. Our first field trip of the year took place in Hoboken at Gravity Vault. There is something truly special about watching our mentors and mentees step outside their comfort zone and try something new together. Several students were a little nervous about climbing the wall, but with the support of their mentors and cheering from the crowd, they were able to conquer their fears and many of them even reached the top! Our next trip was over to Jersey City for Chef Bambino! Our students LOVE to learn how to cook and try new foods. On this trip we dressed up as mini chefs, donning aprons and even wearing chef hats! Our mentees made empanadas, which was a new experience for many of our students.

Our students requested a trip to the zoo this year so we made our way over to Turtle Back Zoo to check out the animals! The touch-tank was a crowd favorite! It was fun to watch our students try something new and encourage each other to touch the stingrays and sharks. We had so much fun on this trip, we didn’t even stop to eat our lunches! Our first three trips of the year were so much fun, our students have already requested we go back again next year! In addition to trips outside of Hoboken, we also took advantage of the pop-up park and pickleball courts in Hoboken. We teamed up with the Hudson Pickleball Club to try out a new sport for the first time.

Our students had a lot of fun picking up this new game and learning the rules and scoring. Afterwards, we cooled off with a sweet ice cream treat at Ben & Jerry’s. We love Ben & Jerry’s so much, we brought it along with us on our next field trip to PierA for Movies Under the Stars! Hoboken Family Alliance provided snacks for the movie and TRUE Mentors provided pizza and of course we enjoyed our ice cream for dessert.

Our field trips were a blast, but the fun TRUE-ly begins again at our Tuesday evening Club program on September 11th, from 6-8pm at the Boys & Girls Club (123 Jefferson). Students and volunteers can sign up online and reserve a spot.
