Giving Thanks at TRUE Mentors
This year, our mentors, teen interns and their families teamed up to host our first TIP Thanksgiving potluck dinner and we were not disappointed! We were blown away by the effort our mentors and mentees took to make food for their first Thanksgiving meal as a TM family. Our returning senior interns (pictured above) took turns sharing what they were thankful for this year, inspiring our junior interns and mentors with their stories. Senior intern Mikey Nieves was thankful for getting accepted into college this year. “Without the support of my family and TRUE Mentors, I wouldn’t be in the position I am today.” Many of our seniors were grateful for their families, friends and mentors that support them. Senior intern, Hope Cosme, was also thankful for her work family this year. “This is my second year working at Hoboken Grace and I am so thankful for the people I have met working there.”
Our mentors also expressed what they were thankful for this year, taking the opportunity to share with their mentees personal stories of gratitude from the year. Workshop Coordinator, Emily Baum, was very grateful for the opportunity to bring our seniors back into the program this year. “This is our first year inviting the seniors to workshops and I am so thankful for the opportunity to continue working with all of them again. I am excited to see everyone applying for college and hearing their excitement when they get accepted.”
Our first TIP Thanksgiving was a huge success! We had more food than we could have possibly imagined and we loved having our interns parents join us at our workshops for the first time this year. We plan on inviting our parents back in January for another opportunity to work together to support their students. Mikey Nieves’ mother was particularly excited about the opportunity to see everyone and give thanks as a TM family. As she shared what she was thankful for, she began to tear up as she reflected on the impact TIP has had on her son. “This program is incredible and I can’t thank you enough for the support his mentor, Christina, has provided over the past 1.5 years. She is family to us and we love TRUE Mentors” We look forward to hosting this event again next year!
